Helix Spiro Wall Tie
(Traditional 10mm mortar Joint)
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
- Cavity wall ties for new construction - available for cavities widths of up to 100mm.
-
Shear tie for connecting new block walls at corners ant junctions - the cost effective alternative to cutting and bonding.

ADVANTAGES
- Transmits tension and compression forces without excessive deformation.
- Allows for both vertical and horizontal differential movement of the two leaves.
- Designed to accommodate an adjustable insulation retaining disc.
- Resists the passage of. water from one leaf to another - not special positioning of the drip required.
- Profile is designed to minimize the capture of mortar droppings across the section spanning the cavity.
- Offers flexibility to allow for inaccuracies in coursing between leaves.
- Cannot be installed the wrong way up.
- Durable - resists corrosion and degradation.
- Performs satisfactorily during a fire.
SPECIFICATION
Spiro-Ties are manufactured from austenitic stainless steel Type 304 to BSl449. For particularly corrosive and aggressive conditions Type 316 stainless steel is available on special order.
The appropriate Spiro-Ties for a .particular width and situation should be specified by reference to Table 1.
INSTALLATION
Spiro-Ties should be installed in accordance with 5S5628:Part 3 as follows:
- The ties should be built into the bed joints at the time the courses are laid, with a minimum embedment of 60mm into each leaf. They must not be pushed into the joint afterwards. The ties should be placed horizontally or with a slight fail towards the outer leaf; normal precautions should be taken to prevent mortar droppings collecting on the ties.
- The tie spacing should meet the minimum requirements given in Table 2; the ties should be staggered and evenly distributed.
- Additional ties should be provided within 225mm of all openings so that there is one for each 300mm of height of the opening. Consideration should be given to providing additional ties across the cavity adjacent to movement Joints.
